Babushka Lady Tote

Recently I posted about the clothes my sister sent me to turn into bags.  The second item she sent was a knit Babushka long sleeved tee.

Which I turned into a simple tote:

I thought I'd share the process with you, it's an easy upcyle project and would make a cool library tote or the like.

The first step was to chop off the sleeves and neckline:

Then I stitched together the bottom edges:

Pinched together the points and sewed across to give the bottom a boxier look:

Then I sewed the armholes together leaving about 1 1/2" at the top:

Then I grabbed the sleeves and cut them into 1/2" strips and joined them until they were around 30" in length:

Then tied a knot in the end and plaited them:

I made a casing at the top of the bag and slipped the plait through:

Then stitched the ends together and made a loop: (slip it around and hide this bit in the casing)

And that's it, quick and easy...and cute!
