February in Our Garden

February is a busy month in our garden and I wanted to take you for a walk around to see what has been happening.

The first order of business today was to use up some of the zucchinis.  36 muffins later and only 3/4 of a large zucchini used...sigh.  Note to self: pick the zucchinis smaller!!

I like to freeze these and pop one in each of the kids lunch boxes as a treat.

We have a really lovely veggie patch of three raised beds that were set up by the previous owners.  At the moment our tomatoes are on.  And boy, are they on!

Luckily for us the kids enjoy picking them straight off the plant and eating them.  I've also made a dozen jars of pasta sauce from them and I'm thinking it's time for some relish now.

This bed is filled with Japanese Mizuna and Rhubarb.  I had just finished hacking away at the Rhubarb when I took this photo, so it looks a little more under control.

These two are my constant companions out on the property and like to get up to mischief, both together and separately!

A ready supply of onions and garlic are hanging in the shed, drying out.

We have a couple of lovely Lavender bushes in the garden that I thought I'd try my hand at propagating.  Our driveway has some empty space alongside it that could use a Lavender hedge.  These babies should be ready to plant there in about 6 weeks.

I drink a juice daily and these were the ingredients today:

2 Silverbeet leaves (home grown)
1 Stick Rhubarb (home grown)
Handful of Cherry Tomatoes (home grown)
1 Carrot (home grown)
Bunch of Mint (home grown)
Chunk of Ginger
2 Apples

Sadly the Ginger is not ours nor the apples.  The birds got to our apples, but we only had a few anyway as this was their first year producing.

So after a lovely morning in the garden, I'm sitting down to some juice and a muffin.  How does your garden grow?
