Easter Bunny Ears Baskets! And I'm getting in early so that I give you plenty of time to make one or two (or in my case four) yourself. Want to have a go?
We'll start with the bunny ears. You'll need to use your best drawing skills to sketch yourself some cute little ear shapes. Then cut out 4 ears. They were approx. 7" long and I used fleece to make mine.
Join 2 right sides together and sew around the sides leaving the bottom open for turning.
Then turn it right side out.
Then topstitch 1cm in from the outer edges.
Grab two pipe cleaners and twist them together, then fold in half
Then insert them into your ear like so;
Now you have a bendy ear, do the other one and set them aside.
Now for your basket, I used fleece as it was soft like a bunny and it has some stretch so you can make these pieces fit together easier. You will need 2 x 17cm diameter circles (1 outer fabric, 1 lining) , 2 side pieces 17cm x 52cm, 1 turning piece 11cm x 53cm and a 37cm length of twill tape for your handle. If you want your basket to stand alone you will want to add interfacing or padding as well, I left this out as I was happy with a flopsy basket (rabbit pun intended!).
The outer fabric basket and lining are made the same way: fold your side piece in half right sides together and sew.
Then join the circle to the side piece, right sides together.
Insert your lining basket into the outer one, wrong sides together and matching seams. Pin your handle edges onto the sides and then baste on.
Now it's time to attach your bunny ears. Baste them on.
Grab your turning piece, sew the short ends together and then fold in half lengthways. Pin it to the inside of your basket, sandwiching your handle and bunny ears and matching raw edges.
I used my overlocker, but you could just sew it or zig zag stitch if you prefer. Now you are ready to flip that piece over to the outside.
And hop along and see what is hiding in your garden.
If you are feeling extra crafty, you may want to give your bunny a face, or even let the kids do that part!
Happy Easter!
